Army Days

Staff of Alfa Company 1989. I am second row, 1st, RTL next to Theo Bodenstein.

RSM Genis – a true soldier! A man who immensely influenced my life.

Corps Director – can’t remember his name. Lieutenant colonel Von Brandes behind him. Lieutenant Williams saluting the VIP’s coming down the podium on the far side. He was commander of C company.

Lt Anderson and a fellow Lt on Vasbyt.

Vasbyt . . . his buddies could no longer carry their rifles. He was part of a group of policemen who transferred to the army and they had a tough time!

RSM Genis taking a break.

Precision drill in Kimberley. I was there for a few months when they changed from two year’s military service to 18 months, part of an all-army training team.

Major Middleton, RSM Genis with Simon Olley and Frans Viljoen.

School OC – Lieutenant-Colonel Wiesse

Vasbyt – Pieter Landman lending a hand!

Lieutenant-Colonel Wiesse during the production of a training video.

Passing out parade. Is that Gen Gert Opperman?

Major Dewet Geldenhuys. I think it’s Pieter Landman sitting with his back to the camera.

The chaplain arriving with AO2 Olley – ? (I think) — with Simon Olley.

I’m speaking to one of the troops

Glen Mueller – then Glen became a C.A.

To infinity and beyond! ;-))

Mortar assault on the famous “white road” in the center of the pic.

One of our students was evaluated for “order group” by RSM Genis. Think the student was Candidate Officer Anderson.

After Theo Bodenstein and my disastrous night exercise. The morning after. Look at his lip. If I remember correctly, four or five of our platoon ended up in hospital. I remember when we had to wake Dewet Geldenhuys, our CO up to tell him about it. It was one of the least pleasant experiences! 🙂

Olifant Tank – Lohatla (Army Battle School)

Rooikat – Lohatla

Anti-Aircraft – Lohatla

Lohatla (Army Battle School) – G6 canon

G5 Canon – Lohatla

Receiving the colors – think this was a practice at the school before the real event at the Vootrekkerhoogte sports field.

G6 Canon – Army Battle School

An Olifant tank approaching? Lohatla.

Arresting a POW procedures – Training at Lohatla (Army battle School)

Voortrekkerhooge – Capt. Anker as company commander in the centre and im to his left (right in the pic) as company 2 IC.

Forgot his name, but he joined us when he was doing a camp in Lohatla

One of the guys from Special Forces who joined us for training.
